How Long Should My Tie Be?

How Long Should A Tie Be?

When it comes to proper tie length the rules are quite simple. Essentially, the tip of your tie should end in the middle of your waist band (or belt if you are wearing one).

The guide below can be used as a resource to help you get the correct tie length every time you get dressed.

Helpful Tips for the proper tie length:

- Too Long: your tie extends way past your waistband or belt.

- Too Short: you are able to see the fabric of your shirt between your waistband and where the tie ends.

- Correct Length: The tip of the “diamond” or your ties sits in the mid part of your waistband or belt.

It’s really that simple. When you’ve finished getting dressed and tied your tie, take a step back and take a quick look in the mirror to make sure your tie is the proper length.

Standard Tie vs Long Tie Length:

If you are over 6ft or have a long torso a standard length tie might not “fit” you. Buying an extra-long tie (usually between 60-63 inches long versus the 57 inch standard length tie) can solve your problem. Knowing your proper tie length is essential in being a well-dressed man.
